Who is "WIDE, ROUND AND LOW TO THE GROUND",
is barely 30-odd inches short and come in rainbow colours?
Who eats a scant cup of tasty oats each day,
nibbles on the barn cat's tail and plays "tag"
with the fluffy English "Fairy Bantam" chickens?
Who is "auntie" to a just-weaned mournful
Thoroughbred foal and stands quietly for a child
in a wheelchair to find her ears hidden
in a tower of hairy mane?
Who visits the kitchen door just to be sociable,
or carries baby Louise carefully from the paddock gate
to the stable door without a misstep?
Who blissfully eats four well-wilted dandelions
from a grubby-fisted four year old in braces
and is careful not to move her head so that
Tony will not topple over?
You guessed right!
She's an adorable Shetland Pony

What
do these ponies do?
Lots
of people ask what our ponies must be able to DO. The only thing
our ponies MUST be able to do is to be fine companions for small
children. Most ponies are too small to be ridden (except minimally
by a child of thirty pounds or less) very often, however, they make
very fine driving ponies if trained. But all of our ponies must
love to be hugged and petted and kissed, to stand patiently while
a child in braces or on crutches or in a wheelchair brushes and
combs, feeds and caresses them. That is the work our ponies do!
